Penelope Keith - (To the Manor Born, The Good Life, Executive Stress) - Penelope Keith is, in my opinion, one of THE most underrated british television actresses. She's incredibly funny, tall, very very elegant (in a way that makes you wonder: do I want to be her or do I want to be WITH her?) and has what might be the clearest, nicest sounding elocution I ever heard. Like I said, everything about her screams elegance!! And did I mention how funny she is? Because put her in any role and she *will* make you laugh. I mean, it's the 1970s, so that's an automatic penalty in my book--but as 1970s dresses go, this one is actually kind of interesting. The long-stemmed, stylized flowers (poppies?) give it a sort of "Japanese print" aesthetic. The visible bra strap is unfortunate, though!

As my birthday is drawing nearer, even though I'm already slightly out of them, I ask myself occasionally, what did I accomplish in my thirties?

I don't know really. But I did stay away from a few things ppl in their late thirties have done historically:

I didn't try and lure an innocent and poor governess in my employ into commiting bigamy with me, unlike Mr Rochester with Jane Eyre. I wasn't even tempted to be honest.

I also didn't court and marry a teenaged girl with heartbreak because she reminded me so much of my fallen-from-grace childhood love, like Colonel Brandon with Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility.

But one thing that did happen was that I aged enough that I got the same age as Penelope Keith when she was Audrey fforbes-Hamilton and suddenly she wasn't an older wilful and charismatic woman, like I'd seen her as a kid anymore, but instead I could see how handsome she is!
